You might be familiar with my favorite protein bar. I’ve made it my mission in life to find the best protein products out there, because if I’m going to try to intake more protein (the struggle is real) and recover smarter (you mean not just hobble down the stairs after a marathon?!), I want to eat or drink a product that actually tastes good, right? And I don’t mean tricking-myself-into-thinking-this-cardboard-tasting-product-is-good-for-me-so-it-tastes-good-wink-gag, but a product that truly makes me want to grab it on the go after a workout or activity and—wait for it—that actually satisfies me.

Another peek into my brain that you didn’t ask for—I don’t typically like drinking my calories. There. I’ve said it. I just don’t like it. Maybe that’s part of my former eating disorder brain, but I’d rather eat a solid and feel full versus drink a liquid, feel full for maybe thirty minutes, and then want something to actually eat.

So when BibRave put the call out to its Pros about the Science in Sport REGO Rapid Recovery product, two thoughts came to mind immediately:

  1. I’d rather eat something solid to recover.
  2. I don’t work out hard/long enough to need a recovery product.

Wrong and wrong-o, Becky. SiS REGO Rapid Recovery legitimately keeps me full for hours in the morning. I don’t know what wizardry SiS is pulling, but I don’t end up craving a snack at ten o’clock in the morning like I do after drinking other protein/recovery drinks. And do y’all get imposter syndrome about recovery products?! Please tell me I’m not alone.

Sometimes after a long run, or like after my eighth full marathon in November, I sort of wander around my kitchen thinking I want something to eat, but nothing jumps out at me. Instead of opting for a black cup of coffee and a hot shower, what I should really be doing is taking in healthy carbs, proteins, electrolytes, and vitamins to replenish my body after a very-legit workout/run. I’m not getting any younger (I feel like I’ve written that in my last five blog posts hah), and I need to start treating my body with respect.

HOLY COW. Let’s say that again for the people in the back.

Treat your body with respect.

In addition to really prioritizing your sleep, general well-being, and nutrition, I’ve recently realized (thanks, pandemic) that recovery and the steps you take to recovery are a game changer. These simple, easy lifestyle changes can make a world of difference over the long run. Y’know, like foam rolling or yoga.

Nutritionally, SiS REGO Rapid Recovery has so many benefits. Both the chocolate and strawberry flavors that I tried have 23 grams of carbs, 20 grams of protein, and so much more per serving. (By the way, I had no clue that during training or races, we can absorb ~60 grams of carbs per hour! So as we’re running along, our bodies crave way more carbs than we’re likely intaking.)

  • Leucine—supports muscle protein synthesis and rebuild
  • Electrolytes
  • Vitamins (E, C, B6, B12, etc.)

And talk about convenient! Literally add three scoops (~50 grams) of the powder to 500 ml of water and shake! Or, grab an already measured packet when you’re on the go.

The shaker is a perfect accessory (stocking stuffer?!), because it indicates the 500-ml line on the side, so as I’m chatting with my daughter or husband after a run, I literally stand at the sink, fill up my shaker, and walk around shake-shake-shaking. And seriously—just add water!

Fun Fact: Science in Sport actually recommends not mixing it with anything else, like milk, for example. Milk can be slow to digest, so they suggest mixing with water to increase absorption rates and aid hydration levels.

And the first time I made the chocolate flavor, I felt like I was missing something by only using water, but the taste was AH-mazing! I’m a huge fan of oatmeal, and it was like this creamy oatmeal chocolate explosion in my mouth. And I’m normally not a huge strawberry fan, but that flavor almost tasted like a malted milkshake. I haven’t tried the vanilla flavor yet, but it’s next on my list for sure.

Another Fun Fact: I try to shower immediately after I run, and I know I should drink SiS REGO Rapid Recovery within 30 minutes of stopping exercise (defined by SiS as short, intense sessions or prolonged endurance sessions), so I try to go as quickly as I can to remain in that 30-minute window of time. I know that’s silly, but it’s a game that I play with myself most mornings.

Oh, oh, question! So is this product vegan, gluten free, and so on? It is

  • vegetarian;
  • gluten free;
  • wheat free;
  • dairy free; and
  • nut free.

FYI: It is not vegan because it contains vitamin D, which is derived from animal sources.

My recommendation is that you treat yourself right and snag some SiS REGO Rapid Recovery now. Or put it on your holiday wish list!

But don’t just take my word for it. Check out my fellow BibRave Pros’ love of SiS REGO Rapid Recovery:
