How do you prep for an upcoming race?

As I mentally prepare to run the Rutgers Unite Half Marathon on Sunday, April 14, one of the first things that comes to mind is preparing my running playlist. Most runners compile a song list, but I like to pull together a podcast list. Here’s what I’ve put together:

My Jams

My Top 3 Podcasts

  • The BibRave Podcast: Episode 139: Blood Flow Restriction Therapy and Strength Training “Hacks”
    • I sheepishly want to admit that I feel like hosts Tim and Jess are my BFFs. They ask insightful questions, talk about real-life scenarios, and I always learn something new.
  • Another Mother Runner Podcast: Episode 353: A Conversation with Mirna “The Mirnavator” Valerio
    • I first listened to a podcast with Mirna as a guest back when I ran the Monster Mash full in October 2018. She is so relatable, honest, and unapologetic (in a good way). I can’t wait to dive in to this episode.
  • Marathon Training Academy: Episode released 3/21/19: Finding the Joy in Running
    • I also claim in my head that Angie and Trevor are my besties. The dynamic they have between them makes me chuckle, they give awesome running tips, and I salivate to get my ears on their race recaps. They also make me want to run trails in PA!

During the last few miles of a race, I usually switch to my power songs. I like to pick up the pace if I can and finish strong. I have a specific Google Play playlist that’s easy to access and is a mix of songs that pump me up and remind me of my family:

  • Panic at the Disco: High Hopes
  • Hamilton Soundtrack: Wait For It
  • The Greatest Showman Soundtrack: The Greatest Show
  • My Little Pony The Movie Soundtrack: Time to Be Awesome (for my daughter)
  • My Little Pony The Movie Soundtrack: Off to See the World
  • Taylor Swift: I Knew You Were Trouble
  • Marshmello and Bastille: Happier

Don’t wait!
