I literally squealed out loud and ran to hubs to tell him that I was chosen to attend the 22nd Annual Key West Half Marathon and 5K on January 19, 2020 as a BibRave Pro.
My first trip to Key West was as a stop on our honeymoon back in 2014. We had an out-of-this-world time, and ever since, I’ve had dreams of going back. Here are a few highlights from our trip. I loved biking, going to the beach, visiting the Ernest Hemingway House (oh, the polydactyl [six-toed] cats!), and watching the sun set at the famous Mallory Square Sunset Celebration. It was breathtaking!
The Key West Half Marathon and 5K series looks huge and well orchestrated! Check out this video on the event’s Facebook page. I can almost feel the sun on my skin and the breeze in my hair already! Time to break out the flip flops and Jimmy Buffett songs.
According to the website, “Set to begin at 7 a.m., the sporting challenge takes place on a flat, fast 13.1-mile half-marathon course in the scenic island city. Location of this year’s run is the Key West Historic Seaport at the foot of Margaret Street. The 5K Run will follow right after the start of the Half Marathon.” The site cautions that folks should register now before the race sells out, so run (not hop; it’s not Easter quite yet) to it!
If running the half isn’t your thang, you can attend the Hemingway 5K Sunset Run/Walk and Paddle Board Race the same day as the half. I’ve never heard of such a combo race before. I sort of wish I knew how to paddle board, but I don’t think it would be the best time to learn then.
Check out a video from the 2016 5K race here. If this doesn’t get you pumped up, I don’t know what will!
The site also has a ton of merch for sale, which I’m going to be a total sucker for once they preview the 2020 versions. I’m the type that loves race shirts and stickers.
To register, go here and use code BIBRAVE20 to get 20% off the half marathon!
Logistically, there’s a lot that hubs and I need to figure out, but in the meantime, I’ll be throwing on my sunglasses and pretending like I’m sipping a frozen cocktail in Key West.
