I’m all about convenience. I’m more apt to stay on track and eat healthfully if my nutritious choices are right in front of me within arm’s reach. I also like portable foods—items that I can chuck in my purse and run to the Angry Kindergartner’s (AK) soccer practice or Girl Scout meeting. I get hangry very easily in public (hubs will attest to this), so I need to be able to carry and go.
Enter Food Groove Mission. Food Groove Mission was born in Dallas, TX from a dynamic husband-and-wife super duo, who had a long list of life goals and ambitions. As active long-distance runners and triathletes, this team believes in healthy superfoods that everyone can enjoy, whether you’re gluten free, paleo, or just looking for a boost! They’re bites instead of bars—so you can eat as much or as little as you want and take them with you anywhere.
OK, that’s the overall spiel. The skinny is that the pouches are resealable. Did ya hear me correctly?! Resealable, baby. I adore this feature, because that means no more food crumbs at the bottom of my purse (or your gym bag).
I also love the ingredients list. Think organic-everything: peanut butter, dark chocolate, medjool dates, Manuka Honey UMF +16, rooibos powder, golden berries, goji berries, acai powder, chia seeds, cacao nibs, pumpkin seeds, almonds, unsweetened coconut chips, flaxseed meal, an all-natural protein blend (with a hint of vanilla extract, monk fruit extract, and sunflower lecithin), and almond flour.
Taste and Consistency
I received all three flavors to try—Holy Truffle Punch!, The Nutty Adventurer, and Mother Earth.
Holy Truffle Punch! is describes as dark chocolate bites . . . “a pure spark of dark chocolate” to be exact.
Since the packaging is almost a red color, I couldn’t help but think of fruit punch for some reason. I was expecting the bites to be a lot sweeter than they were. Don’t get me wrong—they definitely satisfied my sweet tooth, and actually, after eating a few, I appreciated the fact that they weren’t super chocolate-y.
I was also surprised by the bites’ size and consistency. For whatever reason, I was thinking the bites would be a lot larger, perhaps the size of mini muffins? The consistency was much chewier than I had imagined, too. They were more like a softer energy bar than a rock-hard block like some bars.
The AK and hubs tried this flavor with me, and here’s what they had to say too:
Hubs: It’s good! (Oh he of few words.)
AK: It tastes like cherry chocolate. I LOVE IT! (Screamed into my ear)
The Nutty Adventurer was the next flavor that we tried. I’m an absolute peanut butter addict, so I had high expectations. These bites tasted like actual shelled peanuts. Cue the heavens opening up. They weren’t sweet or fake-powder-PB tasting whatsoever. LOVE! My family agreed too that the bites tasted like real peanuts.
Finally, we tried Mother Earth. We couldn’t come to a consensus about what these bites tasted like. The AK said they tasted like cherries. I thought they tasted more like strawberries mixed with raspberries, and hubs said cherries or licorice. I’m not sure that I’d buy this flavor by itself, but I would definitely throw a few pouches in the mix if I opted for a box of 10.
A pouch is $3.99 USD, and a box is $39.90 USD (with 10 pouches). You can also order a variety box on the site or sign up for what’s called the Bite Club.
The Bite Club
This option is neat, because you can customize your own subscription box of ten pouches. You can choose what you want, when you want it (every month, every 2 months, or every 3 months), and you’ll get a free Food Groove Mission hydration bottle thrown in! If you buy 10 pouches, you can save 10% and get free US shipping.
